Original Details

Most historic garages feature wood-shingle or clapboard siding.  Decorative scalloped shingles were less common.

Some surviving garages retain the original wood vehicular-entry doors with cross bracing in the barn-door style.

Many vehicular-entry doors featured divided-light windows, such as these 3-over-3 lights in a Rosebank garage.

Exposed rafter tails

Exposed rafter tails under the eaves can be found on some surviving historic garages.

Original strap hinges remain intact on the outward-swinging doors of some historic garages.

Gable windows

Windows in front-facing gables added natural light  and charming detail.
